This Lukas Geniusas’ first recording for Piano Classics presents two 19‐th century masterworks, both Sonatas of extraordinary length, scope and content. Brahms’ First Piano Sonata op. 1 (“a veiled symphony” according to his admirer Robert Schumann) is a young man’s answer to Beethoven’s magnificent Hammerklavier Sonata, a work of unprecedented impact, which radically changed the concept of the Sonata in the 19th century.
