The piano music of Nikolai Kapustin enjoys an ever increasing popularity. His irresistible fusion of classical and jazz is enthusiastically received by modern audiences. This new recording presents the Piano Sonatas nos. 1 and 7, serious works of advanced complexity and emotional depth, a selection from the Etudes and Bagatelles, displaying great brilliance and dazzling virtuosity, and the famous Variations Op. 41, an homage to Stravinsky’s Sacre du Printemps (the bassoon solo is quoted in it). Sun Hee You, born in Seoul, settled in Italy, where she worked with Lazar Berman, Boris Petrushansky and Paul Badura‐Skoda. Her playing displays a rare blend of technical brilliance and artistic profundity.
